Welcome to Year 3,

My name is Mrs Glimmerveen and I am the new Year Three teacher. I am thrilled to be working with your children and am sure we will have a fabulous year together! This newsletter should cover all the key information you need for the term, but if you have any queries, then please feel free to ask me. Thank you Mrs Glimmerveen

Start of the day

The school day begins at 8.45am. Please ensure your child is on time and waiting in the playground ready to enter when the doors open. If they are late, children must enter through the office entrance. If your child is absent please ring the school office to inform them as soon as possible.

Swimming and PE

This year, Year 3 will be swimming in the autumn term. This will begin on Thursday 12th September. It is important that children participate in the swimming lessons each week as this is part of the curriculum. Therefore, children must have their swimming kit every Thursday and a quick note if you wish them to wear googles. The kit includes swimming costumes for girls and shorts for boys, accompanied with a towel and googles, if necessary.

PE will take place on a Tuesday afternoon- please make sure kits are kept in school.

A reading book will be sent home with your child. They will be able to change during school time. Please continue to read daily with your child, and log it in their reading records, this will help us to support the children. Whilst you are reading with your child please try and ask questions about the story, (such as; what will happen next? What do you think the character feels?) This will then support the quizzes the children take about each book. It will also help to promote a love of reading, which is so important for children to develop all round English skills. It doesn’t matter what they read, it can be magazines, papers, books, even recipes or instructions! The wider the variety the better.

Spelling and Times Tables

Each week the children will be given a set of spellings to learn as well as learning their times tables. If you can pick a word or two a day and practice them and a couple of timetables, it will help your child enormously. The homework is stuck in books on Friday and to be returned the following Friday.

Termly project related homework will be sent out.

Meet the Teacher Session

I am going to hold a drop in session on Wednesday 18th September after school. Anybody who would like to come and say hello and have a chat about anything to do with their child, would be most welcome. It would be lovely to put a name to a face, as I hear so much great stuff about you all from the children on a daily basis! It is an open invitation, but if there is something urgent or more complicated, please by all means book in to see me separately.

I look forward to seeing you, if you can make it- after school on the 18th September.
