Learning within the classroom
This term we have Mrs Howell and Miss O’Brien supporting us within the classroom. Other members of staff will support the children through interventions also. Mrs Aartse-Tuyn will teach RE every Tuesday and PSHE (Jigsaw) and PE on a Thursday.
Our topics this term are:
English – Our new text is Shackleton’s Journey. This a information text all about the journey that Ernest Shackleton endured whilst travelling to the Antarctic. Our writing outcomes will be an Endurance Narrative and Magazine Article.
Maths – In Maths we use the Power Maths programme. In this term we will be covering Geometry, Problem Solving and Statistics.
Science – Our topic for this term is Electricity. We will look at how electricity is conducted, create our own electrical circuits and examine the dangers around electricity.
History – We will be continue to look at Maya Civilisation and the physical features of Central America. We will also be looking at Mayan art work in our art lessons.
Our PE day is Tuesday and Thursday afternoon each week. Please ensure that children are coming to school in their PE kit that day.
In Year 6, homework will go out on a Friday and will be handed in the following Friday. In each piece of homework, there will be spellings practice. It is really important that the children learn their spellings as they will be tested on them every Friday. They will also have a Maths task to complete. If children do not hand their homework in on a Friday, then they will have to stay in that lunchtime to finish it.
Alongside Homework in their books, there are lots of different websites they can be accessing.
- Times Tables Rock Stars
Please familiarise yourselves with our uniform policy. This consists of black shoes (not trainers), black or grey trousers/ skirts, a blue or green polo top, a navy jumper or cardigan. If children have their ears pierced, they must be studs only and need to be removed for PE. Hair dye that is of an unnatural colour is not part of our uniform policy.
As a parent or carer, you can play a key role in helping your child to stay safe online. Take a look at these resources on how you can support your child to use the internet safely, responsibility and positively.
