At Daven Primary School, we believe that every child has the potential to be a leader. Through our "All Pupils Are Leaders" initiative, every child from Reception to Year 6 has the opportunity to choose a leadership group that matches their interests and passions.

Each year, pupils select the area they would like to help develop and improve. Throughout the year, the leadership groups meet regularly to discuss ideas, plan projects, gather the views of their peers and make a positive difference within our school community.

Our leadership groups are:

  • Leaders of Community
  • Leaders of Mental Health and Wellbeing
  • Leaders of Oracy
  • Leaders of Innovation and Technology
  • Leaders of Sustainability
  • Leaders of Rights Respecting

By working together, pupils develop important skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving and decision-making, while helping to shape and improve school life for everyone.

Take a look at each leadership group page to find out more about the exciting projects and initiatives our young leaders are working on.

In addition to our All Pupils Are Leaders initiative, pupils can also take on other important leadership roles within school, including Anti-Bullying Ambassadors and House Captains, further strengthening pupil voice and leadership across our school.

At Daven, every child belongs to on of the four houses (as shown above). Our house system helps to create a strong sense of belonging, teamwork and school community. Children from different year groups come together in their houses throughout the year, giving them opportunities to build relationships, support one another and work towards shared goals.

Every achievement point earned by a pupil contributes to their house's total. House points are collected throughout the week, and during our weekly Feel Good Friday assembly, we celebrate the house that has earned the most achievement points. This encourages pupils to demonstrate our school values, work hard and take pride in contributing to their team's success.

House Captains

At the start of each academic year, Year 6 pupils have the opportunity to put themselves forward to become House Captains. Candidates write and deliver a speech to members of their house, explaining why they would be a good representative and how they would lead and support their team.

Following the speeches, pupils vote for their chosen candidates. Successful House Captains then take on an important leadership role within the school, helping to organise house events, encourage participation and act as positive role models for younger pupils.

Promoting British Values

The election of our House Captains provides a meaningful opportunity for pupils to experience the Fundamental British Value of Democracy first-hand. By listening to speeches, considering different viewpoints and taking part in a fair vote, children learn about democratic processes and understand how their voice can contribute to decision-making.

Our house system also supports the British Values of Mutual Respect and Individual Liberty, as pupils work collaboratively with others, celebrate each other's achievements and are encouraged to contribute positively to their school community.

Through our house system, children develop leadership skills, responsibility, teamwork and a strong sense of belonging, helping them to become active and respectful members of both the school and wider community.

At Daven Primary School, we take a proactive approach to preventing bullying and promoting positive relationships. We have a clear and robust Anti-Bullying Policy, which is regularly reviewed and shared with pupils, staff, and parents.

As part of our commitment to pupil voice and leadership, every other year children are invited to write to the Headteacher explaining why they would make an effective Anti-Bullying Ambassador. Following a selection process, successful pupils receive specialist training through The Diana Award Anti-Bullying Ambassador Programme.

Our Anti-Bullying Ambassadors play an important role in promoting kindness, respect, and inclusion across the school. They help to raise awareness of bullying, support their peers, and contribute to creating a safe and positive environment where everyone feels valued and respected.
