Year 4 2019 - 2020

Mr Seddon

In this newsletter you will find key information about this current term but if you have any queries at all then please feel free to ask.

Start of the day

The school day begins at 8.50am. Please ensure your child is on time and waiting in the playground ready to enter when the doors open. If they are late, children must enter through the office entrance. If your child is absent please ring the school office to inform them as soon as possible.

Homework

Reading

A reading book will be sent home with your child. They will be able to change this during school time. Please continue to read daily with your child. Whilst you are reading with your child please try to ask questions (such as; Predict what will happen next? Did you enjoy this story? Why did the character do that? What would you do?). This is important to help promote a love of reading and good understanding of different stories! Reading can also occur in many different formats as well, such as magazines, newspapers, websites, etc.

Spelling and Times Tables

Each week, on a Friday, the children will be given a set of spellings to learn as well as learning their individual multiplication facts. These should be practised each night ready for the test. The Year 4 spelling list is glued in the back of the children’s reading record. Children should know how to spell each of these words by the end of Year 4.

Further information about homework, such as topic work, will be provided soon.

Our Terms Topics:

Clothing

Please make sure your child’s P.E. kit is in school at all times. Adults from Sportscape will be taking the children for P.E. on a Tuesday afternoon and it is important that they are all in the correct uniform otherwise they will not be able to take part. All clothing should labelled clearly with your child’s name to help with finding those missing items! It is school policy that children do not wear jewellery and hair is tied up.

An E-Safety message…

We are all concerned with how to keep children safe on all their gadgets. Please read the guidance below for some simple rules you could share with your child:

  • Always ask permission before using the Internet.

  • Only use websites you are familiar with and are told to

    use.

  • Always tell an adult if you see anything you are not

    comfortable with.

NEVER give out a home address or phone number.

NEVER arrange to meet anyone you don’t know.
