Learning within the classroom

This year we will have Mz. Grindon supporting us within the classroom during the mornings, Mrs Aartse-Tuyn will teach Spanish, R.E and P.E alongside Mr Laken.

Our topics this term are:

English – We will be basing our work around the text ‘The Iron Man’ written by Ted Hughes, which is the story of a giant man made of iron, who wakes up in pieces on a beach, assembles himself, and sets about wandering the English countryside. He meets humans, who initially fear him, though soon accept him. By the end of the unit each child will have written a narrative on how to capture the Iron Man.

Maths – Following the Power Maths scheme we will be looking closely at Place Value within 1,000 as well as addition and subtraction.

Science – Our topic for this half term is 'Forces and Magnets' which links in to our Iron Man topic, we will be doing lots of exciting experiments as well as making our very own Iron Man.

History - We are studding the 'Stone Age', the children will be researching 'a day in the life' of a child, creating their own cave paintings and by the end of the unit will be able to place events chronologically on a timeline.

PE

Our PE day is Tuesday and Friday each week. Please ensure that children are coming to school in their PE kit that day.

Homework

In Year 3, homework will go out on a Friday and will be handed in the following Friday. In each piece of homework, there will be spellings practice. It is really important that the children learn their spellings as they will be tested on them every Friday. They will also have a Maths task to complete. If children do not hand their homework in on a Friday, then they will have to stay in that lunchtime to finish it.

Alongside Homework in their books, there are lots of different websites they can be accessing.

Uniform

Please familiarise yourselves with our uniform policy. This consists of black shoes (not trainers), black or grey trousers/ skirts, a blue or green polo top, however we are in the process of phasing out the green, it is still okay to wear but you will be unable to purchase this colour, a navy jumper or cardigan. If children have their ears pierced, they must be studs only and need to be removed for PE. Hair dye that is of an unnatural colour is not part of our uniform policy.

E-Safety

As a parent or carer, you can play a key role in helping your child to stay safe online. Take a look at these resources on how you can support your child to use the internet safely, responsibility and positively.
