Year 2
HOME LEARNING
Hello Year 2,
The home learning for the week beginning 18/1/21 is in the page documents at the bottom of this class page.
Here is a STEM Challenge for you to have a go at:
For anyone who did not have chance to complete the following activities when we were last off school I have left the videos here for you:
While you are all at home, we have decided to set you a little music challenge. Please watch Miss Sadat's video first and then Mrs Heath's to find out what to do. I hope you all enjoy this creative challenge and have lots of fun!
Miss Sadat
Follow this step-by-step video that Mrs Heath has created for you to be able to create your own home recycling 'wave sound instrument'. You may have to pause each step to give you more time.
Also take a look at this link on the bbc website. It's interesting to see the different pieces of recycling that they use to make musical instruments. - https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/class-clips-video/music-ks3-using-everyday-objects-to-create-music/z6cwmfr
I have added some photos to the image gallery at the bottom of this page for some more ideas of instruments you could have a go at making at home.
Spring Term
English
In English we are reading A River by Marc Martin. The children will be using expanded noun phrases and conjunctions to describe a forest/jungle setting. They will also be writing their own stories.
Maths
In Maths, we are learning to divide. We have practiced how to count in 10s and 5s. Now we will be practicing counting in 2s and 3s.
Science
In Science, we are learning all about living things and their habitats. Year 2 have thought of some fantastic questions they want to research.
History
In History, our question is 'What were the people like in Congleton 100 years ago?' We have started by looking at photographs of Congleton in the past and looking at what has changed and what has stayed the same. Year 2 will be leanring what life was like 100 years ago including what it would have been like to go to school and what children did at the weekend.
Art
In Art, we are practicing our drawing skills by drawing whales.
PE
PE is on a Monday. Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate PE kit for the weather.
Homework
In the front of your child's reading record there is a list of words that children in year 2 must be able to read and spell. Please practice reading and spelling these with your child.
In your child's reading record, you will also find their log in details for RMEasimaths.
Your child will be sent home with two reading books, which will be changed on a Friday. When they read 5 times at home they move up the reading rainbow. Once your child reaches the top of the reading rainbow they will receive a certificate.

Mrs Edwards
Before Christmas the class all practised the song 'When Christmas comes to town', we then filmed it on the last day of term.
