Year 2

Spring Term

In English we wil be reading Grandad's Island by Benji Davies. The children will begin by using expanded noun phrases in their writing. They will be writing their own stories and an information text.

In Maths, we are learning to calculate fractions. We have practiced how to count in 10s and 5s. We are continuing to practice counting in 2s and 3s.

In Science, we are learning all about Animals including Humans. We will start by learning about how to stay clean and healthy.

In Geography, our question is 'Where would you prefer to live: England or Kenya, Africa?'  Year 2 will be naming the world's continents and oceans, comparing the climates and their day to the day of a Kenyan child and learning about African music and African animals.

In Art, we will be doing work linked to our Geography topic. We will be recreating artwork in the style of Ndebele and using African patterns.

PE is on a Monday. Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate PE kit for the weather.

In the front of your child's reading record there is a list of words that children in year 2 must be able to read and spell. Please practice reading and spelling these with your child.

In your child's reading record, you will also find their log in details for RMEasimaths.

Your child will be sent home with two reading books, which will be changed on a Friday. When they read 5 times at home they move up the reading rainbow. Once your child reaches the top of the reading rainbow they will receive a certificate.
