Christmas
Year 2 have been working hard on their Christmas celebrations. We also have been talking about diversity, difference and being accepting of others. For our Christmas Performance we decided to perform 'Away in a Manger' with Makaton Sign Language so people that are have difficulties with their hearing can enjoy our performance too! We hope you like our video and have a wonderful Christmas.
Spring Term
Timetable
English
In English we wil be reading A River by Marc Martin. The children will begin by using expanded noun phrases in their writing. They will be writing their own stories and letters.
Maths
In Maths, we are learning about divison and measurement. We have been working hard on learning our 10x table, 5x table as well as our 2s and 3s.
Science
In Science, we are learning all about Habitats and Animals including Humans. We will start by looking at the different places that animals and insects live and why they live there.
History
In History, we will be looking at the Great Fire of London and the Great Plague. We will be producing some great writing all about this and talking about how we know the fire happened.
Geography
In Geography, our question is 'Where would you prefer to live: England or Kenya, Africa?' Year 2 will be naming the world's continents and oceans, comparing the climates and their day to the day of a Kenyan child and learning about African music and African animals.
Art
In Art, we will be doing work linked to our Geography topic. We will be recreating artwork in the style of Ndebele and using African patterns.
PE
PE is on a Monday. Please make sure your child is wearing appropriate PE kit for the weather. On Friday's we celebrate Fit Friday - children should wear appropriate PE kit for this also.
Homework
In the front of your child's reading record there is a list of words that children in year 2 must be able to read and spell. Please practice reading and spelling these with your child.
In your child's reading record, you will also find their log in details for TTRockstars.
Your child will be sent home with phonetically decodable reading books, which will be changed on a Friday. When they read 5 times at home they move up the reading rainbow. Once your child reaches the top of the reading rainbow they will receive a certificate.
