Special Educational Needs - SEND
Special Educational Needs and Disabilities is often referred to as SEN or SEND.
The coordinator of SEND at Daven Primary School is Mrs Kirsten Edwards.
On 1st September 2014, the Children and Families Act 2014 introduced a new frameworkfor children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
All Local Authorities are required to publish information on 'The Local Offer' about all SEND services they provide, along with details of any eligibility for specialist services.

Intent
At Daven Primary School, we have a whole school approach to supporting Special Educational Needs and Disability and use the guidance set out in The Equality Act 2010 and the SEN Code of Practice 2014.
We aim for every pupil to fulfil their potential, no matter what their needs with the belief that all children have the right to have their needs identified, understood and supported in order to suceed. We believe that all teachers are the teachers of children with special educational needs and it is thefore a whole school responsibility to ensure these needs are identifed and supported. We achieve this through staff workng together and with partnership with children, their parents and carers.
Implementation
- We work hard to identify all children who need special consideration to support their physical, social, emotional or intellectual development.
- Lessons are designed using the EEF 5-a-day framework so teachers have a clear structure, enabling all pupils, including our SEND pupils, to access the National Curriculum
- Inclusive practice is vital so we ensure all children are fully included in all activities that take place during the school day.
- We have reviewed our environment to ensure it is both secure and accessible, which all our children can learn successfully.
- Throught parents' evening and regular meetings with our SENDCO, we value the contribution of all families to our understanding of equality and diversity. The involvement of parents is key to ensure they have full confidence in the strategy adopted by the school
- Improve our knowledge and understanding of issues of anti-discriminatory practice, promoting equality and valuing diversity and celebrating events throughout the year.
- Follow the guidelines set out in the SEN Code of Practice.
- Early identification is key, so we work hard to identify children with Special Educational Needs as early as possible,
- Regular monitoring takes place, in a range of ways sucs as looking at data, termly meetings, learning walks and pupil voice.
- To ensure that the SEND budget is used appropriately to fund high quality resources for children with Special Educational Needs.
- To work effectively with a range of other agencies and organisations.
